Start With Why
Start With Why
Have you ever stopped and asked yourself the question, “why am I doing this?” It is powerfully insightful, isn’t it? And even more powerful is to ask yourself the “whys” that you want to live for BEFORE you spend your work and effort and life on something. Certainly, if we can answer the “why” we can understand ourselves and how we got to where we are now. But it is even more powerful when we wrestle and decide what the “whys” are in our lives (the reasons we do what we do) BEFORE we act. In a sense, the “whys” reflect our Core Values which then can powerfully direct our actions. In this three-week series we are going to hold up three Biblical “whys” and the Core Values they represent for us here at St. Matthew. Our prayer is that these might center and empower our actions. Socrates, an ancient Greek philosopher, said, “An unexamined life is not worth living.” The first step is to look at the “whys” of our lives in the grace and wisdom of Jesus.

What guides your life? Where do you look for wisdom?...or even more, where is the authoritative core that directs your life? And how do you know for certain it is true and right? What is the authority that directs the “whys” of your life? And on a scale of one to ten, how much do you trust it? Today, we hold up Jesus as that authority. He is the Lord of all. You can trust Him to guide the “whys” of your life in truth.

There is an old song entitled, “What’s it all about, Alphie?” It was recorded by the artist Dionne Warwick among others. How about you? Have you ever wondered what is supposed to take “center stage” in your life? Today, we look at foudantional “whys” that would, finally, focus our lives on people.
Sunday, January 29, 2023 The Key is Relationship
This is a big one. A key guide to establishing our “whys?” Relationship. But what does this mean and what does it look like? How does the all wise authoritative voice of Jesus guide us here? This is what we focus on today.
